If you have been keeping an eye on petrol prices lately, you know how quickly gas station trips can drain your monthly budget. Whether you commute across Metro Manila traffic every morning, run a family carpool, or manage a business fleet, fuel costs are always in the back of your mind. Electric cars sound like the dream answer, but for many Filipinos, battery range anxiety, or the thought of getting stuck far from a charging station—still creates a hesitation to make the jump.
That is where plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) enter the picture, and BYD Cars Philippines just raised the bar for what an affordable PHEV sedan can actually do.
Building on the success of the original Seal 5, BYD has officially launched the facelifted BYD Seal 5 DM-i, available in two practical variants: Essential and Dynamic.

The headline specification here is almost hard to believe until you look at the real-world test results: in an efficiency run conducted in partnership with the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP), the new Seal 5 DM-i achieved an unbelievable combined driving range of up to 2,181 kilometers on a single full tank and charge.
That means you could theoretically drive from Manila to Baguio and back multiple times without ever stopping for fuel.

So how does it work? It relies on BYD’s 5th generation Super DM-i (Dual Mode Intelligence) plug-in hybrid technology.
- The Essential Variant: Packs a 7.42 kWh Blade Battery offering up to 55 km of pure electric range. That is more than enough for everyday neighborhood errands or short city commutes purely on battery power.
- The Dynamic Variant: Steps up to an 18.3 kWh Blade Battery, delivering an impressive 115 km of pure electric range. For most daily city drivers, you could easily go to work and back entirely on electric mode during the week, plugging in at home overnight, and only relying on petrol for spontaneous weekend road trips down south.
Inside the cabin, BYD made sure you aren’t sacrificing modern comfort for fuel efficiency. Drivers get an 8.8-inch digital gauge cluster and a crisp 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system loaded with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is automatic climate control with rear air vents, multiple USB charging ports, and a huge 522-liter trunk that expands to 1,295 liters when you fold the rear seats flat, perfect for luggage, grocery hauls, or commercial cargo.

Safety is anchored around BYD’s ultra-safe Blade Battery structure, accompanied by Cruise Control, Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPMS), rear parking sensors, Hill Hold Control, Automatic Vehicle Hold, and multiple airbags.
Here is the best news: BYD is pricing the Seal 5 DM-i to directly challenge traditional petrol-powered compact sedans.
- Essential Variant: Special introductory promo pricing is live through August 31, 2026. Official SRP starting September 1, 2026 is ₱948,000.
- Dynamic Variant: Official SRP starting September 1, 2026 is ₱1,048,000.
Every purchase includes an 8-year Drive Unit warranty, a 6-year / 160,000 km bumper-to-bumper warranty, and an 8-year / 160,000 km Blade Battery warranty.

Available in Deep Sea Blue, Cosmos Black, Atlantis Grey, and Harbour Grey, the new BYD Seal 5 DM-i is officially on display at the BYD Tech Tour in Trinoma, with special financing options available through BPI.
